Anorectal Abscess

An anal abscess is a collection of pus in the area of the anus or rectum.

Symptoms

  • Swelling around anus
  • Constant throbbing pain
  • Pain with bowel movements
  • Discharge of pus from rectum/anus
  • Hardened tissue

Causes

  • Blocked gland in the anus or rectum
  • Infection of an anal fissure
  • Sexually transmitted infection
