Dr Ng Kheng Hong graduated from the National University of Singapore with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1999. He was admitted as a member to the Royal College of Surgeon (Edinburgh) in 2002. In the following year, he attained his Master of Medicine in General Surgery and started his Advanced Surgical Training in General Surgery with Singapore General Hospital. In 2004, he was posted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, as a specialist registrar in General Surgery.
In 2006, he was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeon, Edinburgh after successful completion of his advanced surgical training. In the same year, he was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award for further training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Upon completion of his fellowship training, he was appointed Consultant Surgeon to the Department of Colorectal Surgery, Singapore General Hospital. In 2010, he was conferred the 10 Years Long Service Award by Singapore General Hospital, a testament to his dedication to the field.
Dr Ng has a very keen interest in Robotic-Assisted Surgery and championed the use of robotics in various surgical disciplines with the subsequent formation of SGH Tripartite Da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgery Project in 2008. He was also appointed as the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2009 and was involved in over 30 cases of robotic assisted surgery in Singapore General Hospital in the two years after his return from fellowship.
Dr Ng has about 20 years of experience to date. As a colorectal surgeon and general surgeon currently practicing at Gleneagles Hospital Singapore, Dr Ng has a keen interest in laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery. He is very passionate about the use of minimally invasive techniques in in various surgical procedures, including colorectal cancer, gallbladder stones, appendicitis, abdominal and groin hernia, etc.
Dr Ng is one of the first few in Singapore to provide single incision laparoscopic surgery in colorectal surgery, and has been invited to give lectures on advanced laparoscopic technique both locally and internationally.
